The issue of sustainability lies at the core of the school. The entire Montessori ethos is about helping the student to embrace their role as future stewards of the Earth and all its resources. Living as a community which has a sustainable relationship with the land grounds the adolescents, and forms a foundation from which both academic and practical work can evolve.
In addition, the campus itself will demonstrate by example how a built environment can be sustainable:
- Buildings, new build or renovated, will utilize high levels of insulation, energy efficient windows, and low-energy mechanical systems. The use of building material will be sensitive to embodied energy and source of supply.
- The objective will be to provide a low-carbon footprint in a mainstream environment. Renewable energy and low-carbon heat sources will be employed where their use can be economically demonstrated.
- Our buildings will be simple and economical.
